For her appearance at the New York City Ballet’s Fall Fashion Gala on Thursday night, Sarah Jessica Parker gave a fun twist on a classic little black dress. For the event, in addition to wearing a gorgeous off-the-shoulder black dress from Carolina Herrera with mini cutouts along the chest, Parker wore some extra-special accessories: mismatched shoes!
And though the detail might go unnoticed for some, the fashion choice is clear to any big fan of Parker’s longtime show Sex and the City. Let us explain: back in 2000, Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw made fashion history as she wore one pink shoe and one blue shoe during the third season of the show in the “Escape From New York” episode. The look, which was paired with a white fringe asymmetrical dress, was instantly iconic. After all, who would’ve thought to bring some fun to an outfit by wearing two completely different colors of shoes?
So, given the longtime history of the trend, fans of SATC are now smiling from ear to ear seeing the heartwarming homage on the carpet. This time, of course, the heels (one pink and one black) are from Parker’s very own shoe brand, SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker.
“She loves to mix [and] match her pumps [it’s] so Carrie I love it,” wrote on user on Instagram. “More Carrie than the actual Carrie from [And Just Like That…],” another wrote, referring to the show’s reboot. “The two different shoes like in the ‘escape from NY’ episode 😍 iconic!” spotted another eagle-eyed fan.
Luckily for Parker, her mismatched shoes weren’t the only item up for praise from fans. In addition to the out-of-the-box shoe choice, Parker also styled the black dress with a long black bow tied in her updo. “Okay but the bow is a high-fashion choice and I’m here for it,” wrote another commenter. “SJP wore a long a– black bow, so I’m gonna wear a long ass black bow,” wrote another.
At the Ballet’s 75th anniversary Gala, Parker was joined by her husband Matthew Broderick who wore a classic black tux and black bowtie. Also in attendance were a number of other A-list celebrities including Diane Kruger, Naomi Watts, Molly Ringwald, Andy Cohen and many others. Safe to say, however, Parker stole the show!
