This news comes as a bit of a shock to many, especially those who’ve adored and watched Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones’ relationship over the years. But insiders claim their latest real estate move allegedly has everything to do with their marriage allegedly ending.
In case you missed it, the two are selling their longtime vacation home in Bermuda, also known as their prized Longford House, for around $12 million, despite Douglas bringing Jones and their family their for two decades, per Architectural Digest. And this move has led to splitting rumors again.
An insider alleged to RadarOnline that “The marriage is over, but they don’t want to do the whole divorce and separation thing. So, they have this arrangement that’s working for them because nobody knows about it. They are definitely living separate lives.”
Now, this adds up when you remember Zeta-Jones’ comments about divorce via DailyMail (when she said, “I find divorces repulsive. I will never get divorced, never”). However, the two did end up splitting up briefly in 2013 because of the stress from Douglas’ cancer battle and the Chicago actress’ struggle with bipolar II disorder and depression, per People.
“They’re hitting 23 years together, and he’s going into his 80s, and she’s still young at 53,” the insider said. “Their marriage was never really the same after they reconciled following their brief split. Since she was suffering from bipolar at the time, she didn’t want to separate from him. So, they got back together publicly but remained separated.”
The pair met back at the Deauville American Film Festival in France in August 1998, after being introduced to one another by Danny DeVito.
They married two years later in Nov 2000, welcoming two children named Dylan, 23, and Carys, 20.
