Spooky season doesn’t have to be full of jump-scare thriller movies and nail-biting horror films. Amazon Prime Video’s latest offering, Totally Killer is the ultimate Halloween movie for those who want to get spooked without too many scares.
The Blumhouse-created comedy slasher movie stars Kiernan Shipka, perhaps best known as Sally Draper in Mad Men, as she attempts to catch a serial killer who wreaked havoc on her small town in the 80s and shaped the lives of her then-teenage parents.
Using a time machine built by her best friend Amelia (Kelcey Mawema), Jamie (Shipka) travels back in time to stop the killer but, in doing so, has to find a way in with some insufferable popular kids, her mom and dad — who are played by Olivia Holt and Charlie Gillespie as teens and Julie Bowen and Lochlyn Munro as adults.
The movie is hilariously nostalgic and overall a fun time but it’s not without suspense and a few jumpy moments so even your scary-movie-lover friends and family will enjoy.
How to watch Totally Killer for free:
Totally Killer is now streaming exclusively on Prime Video so to watch for free, sign up for a 30-day trial. After 30 days, Prime Video is just $8.99 a month and with tons of incredible movies and shows on offer there, it’s worth every cent this month.
In addition to Totally Killer, Prime Video is also offering up a bunch of other spooky titles in their “Now Screaming” collection including another Amazon Original, Make Me Scream, and licensed titles such as M3gan, Nope, and The Addams Family. You can also rent or buy hits like Beetlejuice, Coraline, and Haunted Mansion.
For additional Halloween entertainment, Amazon Music has a range of terrifying crime podcasts and curated playlists for your Halloween parties. And for a limited time only (starting on Friday the 13th!) you can get in the Halloween spirit with Amazon’s “Terror Tamer” — a hoodie with a built in eye-mask for coverage during those scary scenes, snack pockets, a glow in the dark design and a phone pouch.
According to a survey by Prime Video, 74% of Americans can’t bear to sit still during the most frightening scenes. More than a third (36%) say they cover their eyes so they don’t have to witness the scary parts, 35% need a stress-snack distraction, and more than a quarter (27%) reach for the remote to mute or pause the TV. So, the “Terror Tamer” caters to every need by providing several options for scary scene survival!
