Gwyneth Paltrow Reveals the Unexpected Place She Keeps Her Oscar

For actors, directors, producers, editors, and much more, winning an Academy Award is one of those dreams that feel too big to be true. After all, the award is known around the world for being the most prestigious award in all of the film industry. And though only a few individuals actually get a golden statue of their own, we can only imagine how highly they must treat it when they get to take it home.

In Gwyneth Paltrow‘s most recent interview, however, the actress gave fans a glimpse of how she treats her Oscar –one she won in 1999 for Shakespeare in Love– and it’s not exactly what we expected.

In the73 Questions video, Paltrow is seen walking around her garden and to her backyard. On her way, she goes through her backyard door which is, as the camera shows, propped open by her Academy Award statuette. “What a beautiful Academy Award,” the cameraman said to Paltrow. “My doorstop!” she responded. “It works perfectly!”

Although we can only assume that being a doorstopper is not her Oscar’s full-time role and that it was mostly used as one for the joke, we’re curious about why she even agreed to place it there in the first place. If you ask us, we’d lock ours in a foolproof vault!

Looking back at some interviews about her 1999 Academy Award, however, we also understand why Paltrow doesn’t have only good memories from her milestone win. “[When] you win the biggest prize, like, what are you supposed to do? And where are you supposed to go?” Paltrow remembered in an interview with the Call Her Daddy podcast, per Entertainment Weekly. “It was hard, the amount of attention that you receive on a night like that and the weeks following.”

“I was like, ‘This is crazy. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know which way is up,'” Paltrow admitted. “It was a lot.”

Paltrow also remembered how differently people started treating her after her Oscar win. “I felt a real pivot on that night because I felt like up until that moment, everybody was kind of rooting for me in a way,” Paltrow said. “And then when I won, it was like too much, and I could feel a real turn.”

Overall, however, Paltrow seems to appreciate the award and all the lessons and opportunities it granted her. “Not that I would give it back or anything,” she continued. “It was an amazing experience, but it kind of called a lot of things into question for me.” Let’s just keep it off the ground, shall we?
