King Charles III hasn’t had the smoothest start to his reign with Prince Andrew’s ongoing Jeffrey Epstein scandal, the growing anti-monarchy sentiment, and the rift with his youngest son, Prince Harry. If he thought things were going to get easier in his second year, he might want to take a breath because Hollywood and the publishing industry are about to shake up the royal family again.
Netflix has entered the chat (again) with the sixth and final season of The Crown which is set to premiere in two parts: four episodes on Nov. 16, and six episodes on Dec. 14. The palace will have to relive the death of Princess Diana and the public’s reaction to how the royal family treated her. While the series promises a “high-note” ending with the 2005 wedding of King Charles to Queen Camilla, the royals are likely to see a revisiting of that time through a new lens.
That won’t be the only challenge Charles will face because Omid Scobie, co-author of Finding Freedom about Prince Harry and Meagan Markle’s exit from royal life, will be back with a new focus. His book, Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, is set to drop on Nov. 28. The publication promises to “pull back the curtain on the Palace, exposing the chaos, dysfunction, and distrust amongst the British royal family, and what needs to happen to preserve a monarchy in crisis,” according to Amazon’s book description.
This is likely to be a dramatic moment for the family because Scobie usually delivers insider stories that the British tabloids haven’t covered. The author describes the palace as “an institution in turmoil—exposing the infighting, family deterioration, and outdated practices threatening its very future. This is the monarchy’s endgame.” It feels like a Hollywood movie waiting to be made which just might be King Charles III’s biggest nightmare.
