During World Mental Health Day yesterday, Kate Middleton hosted a forum with her husband Prince William to talk about mental health and well-being. For the occasion, the royal looked as sophisticated as ever in an all-black look and a bright mustard blazer. But, in addition to being a beautiful outfit, sources are now shining a light on the special meanings behind the royal’s look.
For her accessory, Middleton wore gold star earrings from the brand Ear Sass. As reported by Page Six, the earrings were a gift to the Princess of Wales by Maidenhead Rugby Club coach Sarah Renton. Per the outlet, Renton gave the gift after she shared that her 17-year-old daughter, Issy, died by suicide in April. Following her death, a close family member and jeweler, Sophie McGown, made these earrings, named the Issy Star earrings, in her honor.
“It’s incredible,” McGown told Page Six Style. Per McGown, Middleton told Renton that she would wear them soon but didn’t get into specific details as to when. “She’s obviously held out until today on such a poignant day as World Mental Health Day,” the jeweler continued.
“She was so touched by Issy’s story I think being a mother as well,” she said of the mother of three. “She was just so moved and so saddened by it.” Knowing the full story now, we are too.
McGown, who donates $5 to the Brave Mind charity for every Issy Star earring sold, also has a touching homage to Issy on her website. “What an incredibly beautiful soul [Issy] was and is now a beautiful star,” the production description reads.
In addition to the meaningful star accessory, Middleton also chose wisely the color of her blazer. Per Page Six, the yellow blazer was in support of the #HelloYellow campaign from the Young Minds charity. The campaign, which encourages everyone to wear yellow in their everyday lives, raises awareness for the mental health and well-being of young kids.
Kudos to the royal for keeping such important messages at the forefront of her advocacy!
