It’s a big month for celebrity memoirs with Kerry Washington and Jada Pinkett Smith sharing their personal stories, but Britney Spears‘ upcoming book, The Woman in Me, might be the most highly anticipated publication. Fans might be surprised to learn that the 41-year-old pop star is narrating her audiobook, but she opted out of the more difficult sections about her family.
That understandable decision to protect her mental health in reliving certain parts of her childhood and conservatorship left the publisher with a dilemma. Who should take over the more delicate sections of the narration? According to a TMZ source, Spears and the publishing company, Simon & Schuster, had a very A-list name in mind: Reese Witherspoon. Unfortunately, the 47-year-old actress “wasn’t available to do it” but other “female celebs were approached.”
No one has revealed who decided to assist in telling Spears’ story, but the insider noted that it was “someone suitable.” Audiobooks are now a huge part of any book-selling strategy, so it’s likely to be a very recognizable name — and maybe someone who attended her 2022 wedding to now ex-husband Sam Asghari. The presales for the book have already been a success, and the memoir has a “Best Seller” label on the Amazon website.
Spears’ book is promising to share her “moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope.” It’s also rumored to be rather hard on Justin Timberlake, who often capitalized on his former girlfriend’s fame for his own benefit. Even though Timberlake has since apologized, it might not be an easy read once he hears it from Spears’ perspective.
