Remember the real estate debacle between Katy Perry and 84-year-old veteran Carl Westcott? So, unfortunately for everyone involved, the lawsuit is now in full swing and no side seems to be backing down anytime soon. In fact, things are getting quite messy between the two parties.
Since the beginning of the trial over the $15 million property sale in 2020, Perry’s lawyers have reportedly shown that they’re unwilling to back down from the fight. Speaking to RadarOnline, one of Carl’s sons, Chart Westcott, gave an eye-opening update on the lawsuit.
“[Perry’s lawyers] will sink to any low,” Chart said, adding that the lawyers even questioned if Carl, who is currently bedridden and suffering from Huntington’s Disease, was faking his own ailments. “They are soulless,” Chart stated. “All they want to do is fulfill Katy’s selfish desires.”
As a reminder, the deal between Perry and Carl went down when he was allegedly heavily medicated and recovering from back surgery. Once he recovered, Carl changed his mind and requested to rescind the deal. For Perry, however, it was too late.
“This is a sad reflection on the state of affairs in Hollywood,” Chart continued, calling Perry’s lawyers an “army of enablers” who are “solely focused on getting her what she wants at any cost.”
The serious accusation against Carl’s character has, of course, infuriated his family members. “This is about [Carl], especially now that they are trying to smear him,” Chart continued. “They crossed lines with us, and I don’t take it lightly.” As a result, Chart shared his and his family’s plans to continue fighting Perry with “every force of strength in my body.”
Also talking to RadarOnline, a spokesperson for Westcott’s family gave a statement. “Their continued efforts to disregard Mr. Westcott’s mental illness, going so far as to accuse his family of ‘faking his Huntington’s Disease diagnosis’ shows their heartless nature,” the statement read. “Particularly in light of Katy Perry’s hypocritical self-proclaimed concern about mental illness.”
“Katy Perry and her attorney’s continued disregard for Mr. Westcott’s brain disease and mental illness demonstrate how low they will stoop to get her what she wants at any cost,” the statement concluded.
Since that statement was given, a lawyer for Perry defended the “Roar” singer. “Katy has never, under any circumstances, at any time, ever made negative or disparaging remarks about the elderly, mentally ill or veterans,” they told the outlet. “Katy herself has been involved in substantial charitable efforts on behalf of many less fortunate individuals in our society.”
“The sole reason Katy Perry is pursuing litigation is that she entered into a written contract with Mr. Westcott, who was perfectly competent at the time, for a home that she wishes to live in with her family,” the lawyer added.
The messy trial is set to continue on Nov 3 when Perry will take the stand and testify. Safe to say she probably won’t back out of the fight either.
