Taylor Swift has single-handedly altered the demographics of NFL fans as she continues to go to games in support of her new beau, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. While the NFL is more than happy to have Swifties bumping up their viewership, one NFL fan is not too keen on the new addition to the NFL fanbase.
The Bachelorette alum Rachel Lindsay did not mince words when she was asked how she felt about Swift dominating the NFL news cycle and bringing her massive fanbase along for the ride.
“Yeah, hate it. Hate it. There’s no other emotion that comes out of me than hating it,” Lindsay said to View executive producer Brian Teta on the show’s companion podcast “Behind the Table,” per Deadline.
“It’s a little obnoxious, the Taylor Swift fans. Love that you’re into the sport, but they’re not — they’re into the Taylor–Travis Kelce of it,” she said. “It’s too much information. The media is playing into it too much. People are coming to games wearing shirts that say ‘Taylor Swift’s boyfriend.’ It’s just a little disrespectful to the sport and to the game and even to Travis Kelce. I know I’m being so negative. I just can’t see the fun.”
The reality star claims to be a longtime NFL fan, and she is not having it with all the friendship bracelets entering NFL arenas. She said she didn’t “want to constantly see flashes of [Swift] with [Travis’ mother] Donna Kelce in the suite and whatever famous friends she decides to bring” to the games instead of traditional NFL coverage.
“I get it,” Lindsay added. “I just don’t need it in my face all the time.”
If there is one thing Swifties agreed on with Lindsay, it is that she is indeed being negative, seemingly without any rightful reason.
“Please! They have just as much right to be there as anyone else in that stadium,” wrote one annoyed fan on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “Sounds like someone needs a friendship bracelet,” another user quipped, referencing the beaded jewelry Swifties trade at shows.
Others speculated that the reason Lindsay brought Swift up at all was to ride the pop star’s dominant news cycle. “Crazy part is people don’t know she only said this to get talked about,” noted another user. “THIS COMING FROM THE BIGGEST WANNA BE STAR ON THE PLANET JEALOUS MUCH 😂🤣🤣🤣,” wrote another user, tagging Lindsay in the post. “SHE’S BEEN ON 15 SHOWS AND NOBODY GIVES AF.”
At the end of the day, football is a game for everyone to enjoy, even the Swifties. And even if haters like Lindsay are gonna hate, hate, hate, Swifties are simply going to shake it off to keep supporting their queen.
