Queen Camilla Was Spotted Giggling With This Former Cast Member of the Crown

The British royal family is known for adhering to tradition and strict rules and maintaining a sense of mystery when it comes to the Firm’s inner workings. Yet, Queen Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, just showed that the royal family isn’t as tight-buttoned as they sometimes appear to be as she had a fan girl moment meeting one of her favorites from The Crown, the royal drama series that has delved into the ins and outs of royal family life.

The Crown has been a global sensation and has sparked some debates over its depictions of the royals — but that clearly has not stopped Queen Camilla from watching along with the rest of the world. Last fall, a former staffer said that she was “definitely” tuning into the show. So when Queen Camilla ran into Helena Bonham Carter, who portrayed Princess Margaret in seasons three and four, it was definitely a moment.

The two met while attending the Forward Arts Foundation charity reception at the Clarence House earlier this week. Clarence House, which stands beside St. James’ Palace, has been the London home of Queen Elizabeth from 1953 to 2002 and to Queen Elizabeth II until her passing last year.

Queen Camilla and Bonham Carter were reportedly giggling and chatting at the event, which was celebrating the Forward Arts Foundation’s 30 years of funding poetry and the arts. The actress even did a playful curtsey when first being introduced to Queen Camilla.

This isn’t the first time Queen Camilla has crossed paths with someone from the drama series. Last year, she met actress Emerald Fennell, who portrayed her in seasons three and four the series, during another event at Clarence House for International Women’s Day. The 36-year-old actress told Access Hollywood that she was “nervous” to meet the royal she had been portraying, but it turns out Queen Camilla was a very good sport when she met her on-screen counterpart. During a speech, Queen Camilla said, “For me, it’s very reassuring to know that if I should fall off my perch at any moment, my fictitional [sic] alter ego is here to take over.”

Queen Camilla’s enjoyment of the series and her light-hearted encounters with its cast members remind us that the royals, too, appreciate a good TV binge. Who knows, maybe she’s secretly rooting for a cameo in the final season?
