Prince William Is Already ‘Sickened’ Over This Scene in The Crown

In the first few seasons of The Crown, the Netflix hit was both informative and nostalgic. After all, the timeline of the series started even before Queen Elizabeth II‘s record-breaking reign and showed her many challenges throughout the years. In the most recent seasons, however, as the timeline approaches the current generation of the British royal family, some topics are reportedly hitting a little too close to home.

In fact, according to a new report by the Daily Mail, the upcoming sixth season of the show, which will follow the royals in the late 90s, including Princess Diana’s death in 1997, has one scene that is already sparking outrage. According to the outlet, one of the season’s last scenes will show King Charles II‘s character, played by Dominic West, reconciling with the spiritual form of Diana, played by Elizabeth Debicki, after her death.

Since reports of the scene arrived at the Palace, an insider revealed that Diana’s oldest son Prince William is far from happy. Per the source, the Prince of Wales is “totally sickened” by the idea and thinks it is “incredibly hurtful” to “have his mother exploited over and over again in this tawdry fashion.” Knowing how much his mother’s death was already exploited by the media, we totally understand where the royal is coming from.

In addition, news of the scene has even exacerbated William’s longstanding feud with his brother, Prince Harry. Per the insider, William is “angry” at Harry for partnering with the streaming platform who “ruthlessly exploited” his family.

As a reminder, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have collaborated with the streaming giant multiple times since stepping back from their senior royal roles in 2020. Among their projects was their three docuseries Harry & Meghan, Live to Lead and, most recently, Harry’s Heart of Invictus.

Overall, we can completely understand where William is coming from in his frustrations. And although it’s unlikely that his complaints will actually change anything about the final season of the show, which releases its part one on Nov 16, we can at least hope that Diana’s death is portrayed tastefully and carefully.
