The 2024 presidential race suddenly took a curious turn when President Joe Biden stepped right into Donald Trump‘s territory. He didn’t just tiptoe in, he jumped right into the fire on the former president’s social media platform, Truth Social. The Joe Biden campaign obviously wants a challenge, and they will likely meet lots of foes on the heavily conservative site.

The first post under the @BidenHQ account reads, “Well. Let’s see how this goes. Converts welcome!” While it seems like an odd decision from the White House, a campaign official told Fox News Digital that they have a very strategic reason for joining Donald Trump’s social media site. “Republicans can’t even agree on a Speaker of the House, so clearly, not every Republican thinks the same,” they said. It’s also a way to fight “mis and disinformation” by interacting with GOP voters. And of course, there was a slight dig at the former president. “There’s very little ‘truth’ happening on Truth Social, but at least now it’ll be a little fun,” the insider added.

Rob Flaherty, deputy campaign manager for Joe Biden, shared the news on X (formerly Twitter) with the link to the Fox News article about the president squaring off with Donald Trump on Truth Social. “a thing about campaigns is sometimes you just do things for the lolz,” he wrote. While Joe Biden’s team is strategizing to meet Republican “voters where they are,” they might also be injecting life into the struggling platform. Donald Trump has been issued several gag orders in his legal cases to stop mouthing off on the site while a top executive left the company over the summer after the site wrestled with financial difficulties

Donald Trump hasn’t returned to X after being banned from the site when it was under different ownership, so maybe Joe Biden’s PR move will spark a bit of debate on Truth Social. The race between Democrats and Republicans won’t heat up until after the primaries are settled, but Joe Biden is clearly gearing up for a fight on Donald Trump’s territory.
