The issue surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan’s Markle’s U.K. housing challenges might change very soon if new reports of their house-hunting are true. The royal family has not made it easy on the couple when it comes to security and a safe place to stay, so this would circumvent the palace’s constant roadblocks when it comes to housing.
After being evicted from Frogmore Cottage earlier this year, in the wake of Harry’s memoir, Spare, the Duke of Sussex tried to stay at Windsor Castle during one of his court case visits. That request was met with a firm rejection because the palace reportedly felt he didn’t give enough notice, but it looks like Harry is done with relying on his family with this developing real estate solution.
OK! Magazineis reporting that Harry and Meghan aren’t exactly seeing eye to eye on the issue just yet, but it sounds like “they will soon start looking for a property of their own near London.” The source added, “Harry is very much leading this.” They feel like they’ve reached the end of the line with King Charles III when it comes to assistance with housing during any brief visit after the “issue that arose with Frogmore Cottage.” While “a small apartment in Kensington Palace” has been tossed around as a possible idea, it seems that “a home in the UK” that “they will purchase that themselves” makes the most sense.
It would also be a way to keep their children, Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2, connected with Harry’s side of the family despite the royal rift. “If they don’t have a base here, Harry’s children are going to grow up not knowing their cousins, uncles or aunts, or any of their family,” royal expert Duncan Larcombe told the media outlet. “They’re growing up fast, and his father isn’t getting any younger. I think he would want to do this before it’s too late.” Harry and Meghan have proven time and again the doing things on their own terms is the best path forward in the end.
