It’s not uncommon for parents, family, and friends to help out with a loved one’s engagement, whether it be setting up the proposal or helping one of the partners pick out the ring. However, resurfaced reports claim that Carole Middleton played so much of a role in her daughter Pippa Middleton’s engagement, that insiders called her the “mastermind” of it all.
Insiders previously spoke to The Telegraph about how Carole wanted Pippa and her husband James Matthews to get together right from the beginning, and allegedly wasn’t exactly thrilled that it took them multiple years to get engaged.
“This is something she has hoped for for quite some time,” one family friend said. “She appears to be something of a mastermind in making this happen.”
Many alleged that Carole adored the fact that Matthews would treat the family to such lavish gifts to allegedly win their affection. And Matthews went as far as waiting to propose until he was able to privately speak with Carole to get her permission, per Express.
After dating for a few years (and rekindling their romance after a few months’ break), the Celebrate: A Year of Festivities for Families and Friends author and Matthews got engaged in July 2016. They married on May 20, 2017, at St. Mark’s Church in Englefield, England, per People.
They share three children together. They share a son named Arthur Michael William, born in October 2018, and two daughters named Grace Elizabeth Jane, born in March 2021, and Rose Louise Victoria, born in June 2022.
