Members of the British royal family always find subtle ways of paying tribute to those who are no longer with them. Princess Kate and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, often make sartorial homages to the late Princess Diana, for example. But at a recent royal engagement, Queen Camilla opted to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II by fashioning one of the late monarch’s most significant heirlooms.

At a reception dinner just a few nights ago, the Queen consort wore one of Queen Elizabeth II’s most dazzling tiaras. This wasn’t just any tiara (as if there even is such a thing). Camilla was wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, per People.

While there were likely many occasions for which Queen Elizabeth II wore the tiara, one of the most memorable, and photographed, instances was at a 1992 banquet in Paris. More than 30 years later, the tiara was the finishing touch on Queen Camilla’s ensemble for the evening. The tiara also holds a lot history beyond Queen Elizabeth II.

According to the Royal Collection Trust, this tiara was a wedding present to the Duchess of York way back in 1893. Hundreds of years of history have happened since then, and the tiara still makes a statement at dinners, royal engagements, and more. We won’t be surprised if we see this delicate diadem again in the near future.
