Carole and Michael Middleton have not had an easy year after their Party Pieces business went bankrupt. Even though they had sold their interest in the business before the pandemic, Kate Middleton‘s mother remained the face of the brand and attempted to get their suppliers paid before everything disastrously ended.

Unfortunately, the company’s creditors were left without payment and a new owner bought the Party Pieces name without taking on their outstanding debts, said to be over $3 million. A mystery person has also plastered the couple’s hometown of Bucklebury with “dozens” of posters, slamming them for leaving their suppliers in the lurch, according to the Daily Mail. And now, the locals are upset about that the royal-adjacent duo is “under attack.”

The posters read, “Justice of creditors, Bucklebury. Party Pieces Holdings, LTD. owes its creditors £2.5 million including £831,435 to HMRC and Government loan. Yes folks, that’s taxpayer money.” They encourage people to “petition the insolvency service” and then it takes one final swipe at them with a royal reference. “The future king’s in-laws screwing its creditors, shameful! Cough up.” Yikes!

The damning messages might have the opposite effect on the townsfolk. Instead of them being outraged at the Middletons, they are rallying around them. “There were lots of these posters all over the area and I removed every single one. I am not going to tolerate this in our village. The family have been here for years. They are great citizens. This just doesn’t wash,” said postmaster Eugene Smit to the media outlet.

The village doesn’t want a negative spotlight and they are protecting the family, who has been a huge part of their community for decades. “I can’t believe this was done by anyone local. It is completely out of character for the village. This is a nice community where everybody helps each other out,” said florists Leanne Brown. It might be making a few residents paranoid that a traitor is among them, but the Middletons know that their friendly neighbors have their back during one of their darkest times.
