Carolyn Bessette’s Iconic Wedding Dress Inspired This Royal Family Member’s Wedding Look

Decades after Carolyn Bessette’s death, her minimalistic and chic fashion continues to inspire. From her streetwear to red carpet looks, people still can’t get enough of Bessette’s style (and so many are flocking to grab a copy of the book examining her fashion entitled CBK: Carolyn Bessette Kennedy: A Life in Fashion). And it seems even a member of the royal family was so inspired by Bessette that she was the biggest inspiration behind her wedding look.

Back in 1996, Bessette donned a $40,000 silk slip dress with a cowl décolletage from Narciso Rodriguez during her and JFK Jr’s big day on Sept 21. Rodriguez was one of Bessette’s close friends that she met while working at Calvin Klein, and when asked about the dress, Rodriquez said, per the Standard: “It’s pretty seductive for a wedding dress, wouldn’t you say? It shows Carolyn’s personality: clean, classic, sexy, seductive.”

And it seems as though the simple, elegant look was one of the looks Meghan Markle reportedly wanted to emulate on her wedding day.

While everyone knows about the silk Clare Waight Keller ball gown she donned for the May 2018 ceremony. But her reception gown? She wore a sophisticated white silk gown from Stella McCartney that channeled Bessette, per Harper’s Bazaar.

Along with the simple dress, Meghan said in a previous interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she gushed that Bessette’s iconic gown was “everything goals!”
