Truly, when fans heard that Meryl Streep and her longtime love Don Gummer actually split up six years ago, love died a bit. Streep and Gummer were one of the staple Hollywood relationships that people looked to for proving love can conquer the Hollywood odds, and that even multiple Oscar-winning actors like Streep could spend forever with a regular, non-industry person. While it was initially a sad story for fans to learn about their split, it turns out, that Streep and Gummer have been doing just fine ending their romantic relationship.
Despite having kids, grandkids, and multiple homes together, they haven’t done too much when it comes to changing their daily lives. Insiders told Closer Weekly that since “they’re on friendly terms,” they haven’t done much physical separation. In fact, they still live together.
Insiders said that when it comes to their New York City and Los Angeles homes, they still live together in them, but there’s only been one change.
“They have separate bedrooms at their homes on both coasts. I think Meryl pretty much has her home in Pasadena to herself,” they said. “They have a lot of history together. They have children and grandkids; they wouldn’t have it any other way.”
If it works for them, it works for them! They’ve been together for decades, and they know what’s best for them and their family, but we do have to admit, it is a rather unique situation.
Also, the insider said not to be shocked if you still see the Iron Lady star still wearing her wedding ring. “She wears the ring out of habit,” they said. “But she does take it off. She still loves Don, and the kids like it. It’s very funny, she says the kids scope out her ring finger every time she sees them.”
The Big Little Lies alum married sculptor Gummer in late 1978 after her partner John Cazale passed away. They were together for decades, and welcomed four children together.
While they made a public appearance together in 2018, they confirmed they separated in 2017.
