Paulina Porizkova has been leading the charge against ageism in a raw and honest way. The 58-year-old supermodel has garnered over a million followers on Instagram, thanks to a refreshing take on aging gracefully, but she’s also admitting that she’s human when it comes to falling for the beauty standards placed on women.
Porizkova revealed to People that she still has to fight off the deeply ingrained belief to “not chase youth” and “pretend that she is younger.” She’s challenging herself to work on self-acceptance in this season of life — and she has nailed her inner dialogue. “I’m working on this as hard as I can,” she explained. “This self-acceptance thing, the looking at yourself in the mirror and going, ‘Okay, well, looking older than I did yesterday, but you know what? When I’m 70, I’ll think back at this time as like, ‘Damn, I was pretty hot. What was I complaining about?’”
It sounds like that monologue to herself is working because she knows that she is “the best” she’s ever been. And we love the confidence she exudes in this moment. “Why do I need improvement? I’m in my prime right now. I’m sorry that you think my wrinkles dismiss me from being in my prime, but as a person, as a fully formed woman at the height of her power, this is it.” Porizkova added.
Even though she seems like a total badass, the fashion icon’s revelation that she doesn’t have the “ultimate freedom” yet from the beauty norms she’s grown up with makes her message even more powerful. Porizkova is leading the charge that women over 50 are vital, virile, and ready to run the world!
