Melania Trump would rather put her time in the White House behind her, but her husband, Donald Trump, still has major political ambitions. The former president was in Iowa in early October to drum up support for his candidacy and he decided to talk about his thoughts on “the war on Christmas.”

“By the way, remember Christmas, by the way? We brought back ‘Merry Christmas.’ Nobody fights it anymore,” he said in his speech. “One of the first things I said in 2015, actually, when I was campaigning, I said, we will bring back ‘Merry Christmas.’ Because these woke department stores, they didn’t want to use the word Christmas. And they use the word Christmas now.” That seemingly random video clip led people on X, formerly Twitter, to have a discussion about the former first lady’s leaked audio about Christmas and decor choices — it’s commentary she probably wants to forget.

Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, author of Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship With the First Lady, was the one who released the recording, which was recorded in June 2018. Melania was complaining about the criticism she was receiving about not being an effective first lady and her decorating choices around the holiday. Melania said tersely, “Give me a f**king break. I’m working like a—my a** off at Christmas stuff that, you know, who gives a f**k about Christmas stuff and decorations? But I need to do it, right? Correct?”

Well, here we are, three years after the audio was released and people are still talking about it. “I think she was mad because she had to a little work,” one account wrote on X. Another added, “Beat me to it. Who can forget the blood red scene from the Shining she put up? Red room.” And of course, there is always someone ready to jump in with a humorous quip, writing, “After listening to her whining about Christmas decorations, I think many will add her to the naughty list. Sad.” Melania is probably praying she never has to plan a White House Christmas ever again because most people can’t seem to forget that it’s her least favorite holiday.
