Despite some major breakups we didn’t even see coming this year, love is still very much in the air. Plenty of A-listers are giving us hope that love definitely does win out — like Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott. The couple has been basking in the glow of their summer engagement as they start planning their wedding after roughly four years of dating. Based on a recent interview Scott just gave, we have a feeling about one detail that might be included in their ceremony.
During an appearance on the latest episode of You Made It Weird With Pete Holmes podcast, Scott opened up about the one important element of his first wedding he was denied by his former wife, Kelsey Ully. “It should have been a red flag for me, but I’m Scottish. I’m proud of my Scottish heritage,” the Property Brothers star said. “We had this beautiful outdoor wedding… our friends let us use their place on a lake. It was gorgeous. But she forbade me from having bagpipes play at any point during the wedding.” Ully and Scott were married from 2007-2013.

Deschanel, however, seems to have given Scott her seal of approval on the musical instrument. “Zooey and I have talked about the stuff that we want to do,” Scott said. “She knows the things that are important to me, the things that have hurt me. I’ve had other relationships where the person ended up doing the same thing that hurt me in a previous relationship. They knew that that was what happened in a previous life, and they still did it.”
Planning a wedding should be a collaboration between two future spouses. While it’s difficult to hear about how Scott felt in his first marriage, his wedding to Deschanel will surely be different. It seems like Scott and Deschanel are really keen on making this process fun and totally theirs. We just look forward to watching it unfold.
