We now have the first major Republican candidate dropping out of the 2024 Presidential candidacy race, and it’s come as a bit of a shock. Not only was this person once Donald Trump’s friend, but now his rival, but maybe that’ll change a bit since he’s left the race.
Per DailyMail, Mike Pence made a shocking announcement on Oct 28 in Las Vegas, Nevada, during the Republican Jewish Coalition Annual Summit, confirming he’d be backing out of the 2024 presidential race.
“I came here to say it’s become clear to me: this is not my time,” the So God Help Me author said. “I have no regrets…I will never leave the fight for conservative values.”
During his short announcement, he didn’t speak about endorsing any of the other candidates in any party. This news comes after the report that came out, showing how Pence was having difficulty getting funding for his campaign, along with the poor poll numbers that would put him at a huge disadvantage come time for the Republican debate on Nov 8.
The Republican National Committee’s candidacy qualifications include two polls that show at least 4 percent support and around 700,000 individual contributions. Per FiveThirtyEight, Pence had 3.8 percent, and it’s unclear how many contributions Pence got, but it was reportedly not enough to qualify ahead of the upcoming debate, per Washington Examiner via MSN.
Back in May 2022, Pence was reportedly considering being a presidential candidate against his former political partner Trump. This was later confirmed in June 2023 when he made his official launch. Despite some ups in his campaign, we now know he ultimately backed out in Oct 2023, after only four months.
