While many were rather surprised to hear that Priscilla Presley was so on board with Sofia Coppola’s project entitled Priscilla, which follows Priscilla and Elvis Presley’s love story through the eyes of Priscilla, much like her memoir Elvis and Me, there was reportedly one family member who didn’t like the script one bit.
For those who don’t know, Priscilla follows the legendary love story through the eyes of Priscilla, and is said to be a dark piece that shows their rather inappropriate friendship turn into a marriage, and then their divorce. You can watch the trailer below:
So why did Lisa Marie Presley not like it, but Priscilla did? Well, sources told Page Six that “Lisa was not happy with the movie, it was more worrying about the script, its quality and that Priscilla seems to have been taken advantage of.”
Another insider added: “Lisa wasn’t a fan, she didn’t like the script.” (And because she was allegedly so unhappy with it, Priscilla reportedly kept her producer role a secret.)
It’s unclear what Lisa Marie’s daughters think about the project, but Elvis’ estate did stop Coppolla from using Elvis’ music, and a source said why to the same outlet. “The Elvis estate licenses music to many, many projects — from Lilo and Stitch to Nic Cage’s movie ‘Honeymoon in Vegas’, the difference here is that they thought this movie is a total hit job by a nepo baby,” the insider said.
For those who don’t know, Priscilla and Elvis met back in 1959 when she was 14 and he was 24. They began a relationship, but over the years, and including in her memoir Elvis and Me, Priscilla insists they never had sex until their wedding night on May 1, 1967. In the memoir, she said he said things like “We have plenty of time, Little One.”
They later wed in a private ceremony in Las Vegas. They welcomed one daughter named Lisa Marie Presley, and later divorced in 1973, but remained friends until his death.
