As fans of The Crowneagerly await part two of the hit show’s final season, Kate Middleton might be waiting with baited breath to see how her storyline plays out on the Netflix series.
The show is expected to cover the early days of Middleton’s romance with Prince William. However, for Middleton, this plot may risk undoing the work she’s done to establish a strong image outside of her marriage to the future king. According to source close to the princess who spoke to Us Weekly in November, Middleton is concerned she’ll be portrayed as a “very privileged, lovesick young woman.” Hence, she’s allegedly been working to shift that narrative before it sets in.
“Kate’s switching up her style in an effort to win people over,” said the source, “and also to get ahead of the beating she feels her image will take when The Crown’s new season debuts.”
Royal watchers who are paying attention know that Middleton has undergone a dramatic transformation in the last few years. While many people will just assume it’s because Queen Elizabeth II passed away and the Princess of Wales is leveling up with her new title and duties, there might be a more intriguing reason as to why the public has seen so many changes.
A palace insider described it to Us Weekly as “a new phase of her life” where “she wants her image and actions to reflect that.” They noted, “Kate used to portray the perfect, feminine wife, mother and caregiver. Now she wants to be seen as a powerful and kind humanitarian leader.” Every royal should evolve as their responsibilities grow, but the source believes that the final season of The Crown has a lot of influence on her current makeover.

The second part of the sixth season will feature her young romance with Prince William at the University of St. Andrews. She’s reportedly concerned that the portrayal will make her look like a “very privileged, lovesick young woman.” Kate is apparently tired of the negative headlines these days so she’s “switching up her style in an effort to win people over and also to get ahead of the beating she feels her image will take when The Crown’s new season debuts.” It’s a very “strategic” PR move.
That’s why the public is witnessing her ditch “the long dresses and heels [in favor of] more accessible pieces” like power suits and casual wear. Kate is ready to be seen as “a strong leader, someone who’s capable of taking the title of queen into a new generation,” which means that she’s done with someone else writing her story. The Princess of Wales is in control of her narrative, not Hollywood.
