The rumors about Dwayne Johnsonrunning for President of the United States keep popping up, but nothing has ever really come of it — until now. The 51-year-old actor shared how serious the discussions got behind the scenes after a 2021 poll revealed that 46 percent of voting Americans would support his presidential campaign.
Trevor Noah got the action star to spill the tea on his What Now? podcast — and it’s really shocking to hear! “That was an interesting poll that happened, and I was really moved by that,” Johnson divulged. “I was really blown away and I was really honored. I’ll share this little bit with you: At the end of the year in 2022, I got a visit from the parties asking me if I was going to run, and if I could run.” Notice he said “parties,” not just Democrats, Republicans, or any third party.
“It was a big deal, and it came out of the blue,” the Black Adam star admitted. “It was one after the other, and they brought up that poll, and they also brought up their own deep-dive research that would prove that should I ever go down that road [I’d be a real contender]. Johnson described the experience as “very surreal,” especially since it wasn’t something on his bucket list. He added, “My goal has never been to be in politics. As a matter of fact, there’s a lot about politics that I hate.”
Johnson is sticking to his word that he wants to be around for his family, especially his young daughters Jasmine, 7, and Tiana, 5, with his wife Lauren Hashian. He feels bad that he was not as present for daughter, Simone, 22, from his first marriage to Dany Garcia. As a result, he ultimately declined the offer to run for president in 2024, but it seems that Johnson seriously entertained the idea for a hot minute. The Rock in the Oval Office sure would have been something!
