Sources Reveal Keke Palmer’s Legal Action Against Ex Darius Jackson Was Her Worst-Case Scenario Plan

Days after a judge granted Keke Palmer’s request for an emergency restraining order against her ex-boyfriend Darius Jackson, as well as sole legal and physical custody of their 8-month-old son, a source is revealing legal action was the last route Palmer wanted to take. However, Jackson allegedly left her without much of a choice after exhausting several more amicable avenues.

On Saturday, an insider told People that the Nope actress repeatedly tried to peacefully separate from Jackson and work with him to determine a child custody agreement, but he refused to give her the same courtesy. “She gave him a lot of chances to do the right thing,” the source shared. They continued, “Keke tried so hard to have an amicable split and [custody] arrangement. She needed to prioritize her safety and the safety of her baby. She wants the best for Leo.” The insider added, “She did not want it to get to this point. But she did what she had to do.”

Palmer filed her restraining order and custody requests on Thursday, revealing she has endured two years of physical, mental, and emotional abuse from Jackson. Her legal action was prompted by an altercation that occurred on Sunday, which she detailed in her filing.

“Darius trespassed into my home without my knowledge or consent, threatened me, then physically attacked me — lunging for my neck, striking me, throwing me over the couch, and stealing my phone when I told him I was going to call the police,” Palmer wrote. In addition to her written statement, the actress submitted several screenshots from home security footage showing Jackson physically harming her. Palmer also accused Jackson of several other acts of domestic violence, going into detail about at least two other altercations.

Though their court hearing won’t take place until December 5, a judge enacted a temporary restraining order forbidding Jackson from getting within 100 feet of either Palmer or their son. Additionally, Jackson was denied visitation rights and Palmer was granted full custody. All temporary stipulations will be revisited during their upcoming court date, but it seems pretty clear what the verdict will be.
