Matthew Perry’s Ex-Girlfriend Speculates That He May Not Have Been as Sober as He Claimed

Matthew Perry‘s unexpected death is weighing heavy on his friends and family’s hearts right now. The late 54-year-old’s manner of death is still inconclusive as the coroner awaits toxicology tests, but one former girlfriend is expressing her concerns out loud.

Kayti Edwards, Perry’s former assistant and significant other, dated him in 2006, and worked for him five years later. According to The Sun, she remained a part of his inner circle over the years, so she was quite familiar with his addiction issues. Edwards believes that there were “tell-tale signs of a prescription-pill relapse” and explained to the media outlet why she’s skeptical about his Jacuzzi drowning.

“There are a lot of things that aren’t adding up for me. I know Matthew and I know that he wouldn’t have just drowned. I think he might have taken pills in the week leading up to this. They said there were no prescription painkillers at the scene, which doesn’t surprise me, because he didn’t leave drugs lying around,” she divulged. “He was paranoid and would take them all, so there wasn’t any evidence, and then go out for more when he was ready to.”

Edwards says his “Mattman” character would only surface when he had fallen off the wagon, referencing his Instagram posts that began popping up again. “I was around when he was getting high, although I was not getting high with him, and when I would say maybe he should cool it a little bit with the drugs, he would say, ‘No, I’m Mattman,'” she claimed. She also relayed a story about having to help him after a neighbor found him “naked and high in his swimming pool.”

“I had to go over there and get him out of his neighbor’s pool. He had a thing with water when he was doing drugs,” Edwards said. “He always wanted to be in the pool or the Jacuzzi.” She worried about him for years and now regrets not having the chance “to say goodbye” after last seeing him in 2022. Edwards concluded, “He battled with something very deep.”
