The royal family hasn’t been able to catch their breath over the last few years. Every time they think they are past a crisis, a new one surfaces, ready to take the spotlight and the headlines. King Charles III has wanted to settle into his reign after enjoying his 75th birthday festivities, but excerpts from Omid Scobie’s upcoming book,Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, quickly ended those celebrations.
The released sections of the royal tell-all talked about how isolated Prince Harry was as Queen Elizabeth lay dying and how Prince William has completely shut the door on reconciling with his younger brother. According to the Mirror, palace insiders are “furious” that such details were leaked to Scobie, and they feel like his work overshadowed Kate Middleton’s big announcement about her childhood education endeavors on Wednesday.
“It appears no matter what happens behind closed doors, even in a time of such pain and grief, that where the Royal Family are concerned it will one day emerge. Nothing is off limits with William and Kate appearing to be this author’s number one target,” a source told the U.K. outlet. “It only takes a few months for the knives to come out again and the wounds to be opened up.” The royal family may hate that they are a target for criticism, but it also appears they aren’t doing much to fix some of the reasons they are getting blasted to begin with.
As a king, it’s up to Charles to lead and end the royal family feud, and yes, that includes getting William onboard with that messaging. Instead, they’ve let the rift fester and take on a life of its own — and that doesn’t excuse Harry from owning his part in the fight either. If the royal family doesn’t get a handle on their PR inside and outside palace walls, it’s only going to be a matter of time before another Scobie type of book rolls out — and they will only have themselves to blame.
