Channing Tatum might be excited about his recent engagement to his girlfriend of two years, Zoë Kravitz, but it turns out there is still some business he needs to attend to before they can walk down the aisle and exchange “I Do’s” — and it isn’t just simply trying to win over his future father-in-law, Lenny Kravitz.
Their love story began on the set of Pussy Island, Kravitz’s directorial debut in which she personally scouted Tatum to star, back at the beginning of 2021 — which also coincided with her divorce from Karl Glusman after just 18 months of marriage.
“[He was the one] I thought of when I wrote this character,” she told Deadline in June 2021. “I just knew from Magic Mike and his live shows, I got the sense he’s a true feminist and I wanted to collaborate with someone who was clearly interested in exploring this subject matter.”
The two swore they were just really good friends, even after they were spotted getting cozy together and taking serene couple trips outside of New York City. The two even arrived a the Meta Gala in 2021 separately but were spotted leaving the event together. The two finally confirmed their relationship in October 2021 when they shared snaps of a couple’s costume for Halloween.
So while everything seems to be running smoothly for the couple, there is one fairly significant detail Tatum has to iron out before he and Kravitz get married — he needs to finalize the divorce from his first marriage to Jenna Dewan first.
Tatum and Dewan first announced their separation in April 2018, and in October of the same year, Dewan officially filed for divorce from Tatum. A year later in November 2019, the two were declared “legally single” by a Los Angeles judge.
But according to court documents obtained by RadarOnline, lawyers for both Tatum and Dewan appeared in court just last week. The outlet reports that the parties were supposed to set a trial date, but they have asked for an extra six months to try to come to a divorce agreement concerning the division of certain properties — namely the profits of the Magic Mike franchise. Tatum was the face of the franchise, but Dewan reportedly stated she deserves some of that profit, given her behind-the-scenes support of Tatum and the fact that she helped scout choreographers for the live shows. The two have already agreed on joint custody of their daughter, Everly, whom they welcomed back in 2013.
Here’s hoping the two can find an amicable solution to the details still reportedly tying up their divorce.
