It’s hard to believe that Brooke Shields was a Studio 54 regular back in its heyday given her “good girl” reputation as a teen. Yet the night the hedonistic club opened — April 26, 1977 — the then-11-year-old model attended the event with Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous host Robin Leach.
Most parents would agree that Studio 54, known for its very lax views on drugs and sex, would be the last place they would take their tween, but Shields became a fixture at the hot Manhattan club. She recalled her experience to Glamour magazine in a TikTok video, and her revelations about her time there might shock you. Holding up a black-and-white snapshot of herself dancing at Studio 54, the now-58-year-old actress joked, “Look at those dance moves. Who would have guessed I would have made it to Broadway?”
Then she launched into the tea everyone was waiting for — get ready for it. “My Studio 54 stories are kind of so boring because I was like a mascot… I was like the boss’ kid,” she explained. Her nights would start “early” and her “heart would start to pump” as she walked down the hallway and “picked a dancer” to dance with. Her mother, Teri Shields, would go to a VIP area of the club to “just drink.”
Shields shared that she would dance for “two hours straight” until she was a “sweaty mess” and then went home. She revealed, “I didn’t experience it the way people thought I did.” While that may be disappointing news to some of her fans who were hoping for a juicy story, it probably saved her from any drug and alcohol struggles, something her mother suffered from. So, it was possible to survive Studio 54 era relatively unscathed, even though the nightclub wasn’t the ideal place for a teen.
