Ivanka Trump‘s chic looking appearance at Donald Trump‘s business fraud civil case a few weeks ago was not by accident. Her well-thought-out look was designed to present a specific image to the press, her father’s voter base, and the court — and it looks like the 42-year-old former political adviser succeeded in her mission.
The New York Timesdescribed her navy pantsuit and wool coat as “the picture of gentle, pulled-together professionalism and good will.” Every detail was tended to — from her delicate pearl studs to her glossy, wavy hair that framed her perfectly dewy face. With so much emphasis placed on her testimony about working at the Trump Organization (she is not a defendant in this case), Ivanka left nothing to chance with her sleek appearance.
Fashionistas with an eagle eye also noticed that the former president, and his co-defendant sons, Donald Jr. and Eric Trump, dressed in similar hues to their family member. Gone was the “Trump signature color” of red, it was replaced by navy suits and light-colored ties — you can smell the PR strategy from a mile away. One crucial element that was also missing was “any overt displays of wealth through accessorizing,” an important note since Donald Trump is accused of over-inflating his wealth.
The Trump family, in particular, Ivanka, kept their labels and branding in check to send the message that they were wearing “an outfit meant for cooperation rather than combat.” The message from the three defendants and Ivanka was echoing through all of the press images, but until Judge Arthur Engoron reaches a verdict in the $250 million, the jury is out on whether the subtle wardrobe change made a difference.
