When And Just Like That wrapped its second season in August, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) had just broken up with her longtime on-again, off-again boyfriend Aidan Shaw (John Corbett), who asked her to wait five years until his kids were out of the house. Well, that was quite the controversial ending to the season, and now, fans are going to have to wait a very long time for the show’s third season return.
On Wednesday, Max released their teaser for its 2024 lineup, and And Just Like That was noticeably missing. That means that the Sex and the City reboot won’t be back until sometime in 2025. The writers on the show went back to work in early November after the WGA strike was settled, according to Deadline, but the SAG-AFTRA strike didn’t officially wrap until Dec. 5 when the new contract was ratified by the membership. There was a 15-month delay between Season 1 and Season 2, but it looks like it will be much longer when it comes to viewers enjoying Season 3.
In addition to the And Just Like That writers working on a new storyline for the upcoming season, Parker is headed off to London to star in the West End production of Plaza Suite with husband Matthew Broderick from Jan. 17-March 31. Nixon is also taking to the stage in the Off-Broadway play, The Seven Year Disappear, opening on Feb. 6 in New York City. Even if the show’s writers had finished the scripts in early 2024, the series’ two main stars wouldn’t be available to shoot.
The good news is that fans can go back and binge Sex and the City, the two movies, and the continuation series on Max to tide them over until they get a resolution on what happened in the Carrie-Aidan breakup aftermath. The rest of the cast is expected to also make a return, except for Kim Cattrall, whose finale episode cameo seems to be a one-off opportunity to wrap up her Samantha Jones storyline.
