Julia Roberts recently got fans all excited when she revealed that she was game for a My Best Friend’s Wedding sequel, but what about the rest of the cast? Well, the 56-year-old actress might have just recruited a very crucial person in the love triangle to come back — and this might make fans’ heads explode.
After hearing about Roberts’ wishes, co-star Dermot Mulroney shared that he is also open to another opportunity to play Chicago sportswriter Michael O’Neal. The 60-year-old actor opened up to Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of his new movie, Anyone But You. “Yeah, no, I’m in,” he said. “I’m thrilled to hear Julia’s finally, you know, coming to her senses.” OK, that means that Cameron Diaz is the only person left to convince — and maybe another hilarious cameo from Rupert Everett.
The movie left off with Roberts’ character Jules giving a sweet maid of honor speech for Michael’s bride Kimmy, played by Diaz. This was the heartfelt end to the movie that was filled with crazy shenanigans to keep the bride and the groom from getting married since Jules thought Michael was the one for her. Roberts definitely had some thoughts on where Jules is today and it might be surprising to hear.
Roberts told Gayle King on CBS Mornings that Jules and Michael didn’t hook up later on because “he’s married and faithful to his wife.” Everett’s character, George, and Jules have the most success as a duo because she believes they create “a do-it-yourself show on HGTV and became wildly famous,” which totally sounds plausible. As for Mulroney, he was flattered “to hear her kind compliments,” so Roberts better get a screenwriter working on the sequel. “You know I would love to work with her any day of the week, month, or year,” he said. Let’s get this ball rolling, Hollywood!
