When it comes to how couples communicate and settle their issues, every couple is different. While some can sit down and have an honest conversation, others might prefer to argue to air it all out, or even take time apart to think and regroup. And while couples therapists might have strong opinions on which one of these is healthier, there’s no one correct way to go about it.
For Julia Roberts and her husband Danny Moder, who have been married since 2002, it seems like the two have found a way to resolve their conflicts that works for them. “Julia and Danny had disagreements over the years,” a source told Us Weekly recently. “When things were contentious, they would take some time apart to reset, just a few days or a week so they could start to miss each other.”
In other words, instead of making matters worse by digging deeper into the subject, or repeating the argument over and over again, Roberts and Moder prefer to cool off and reconnect once things have settled. “At the end of the day they’re a wonderful match because Danny is levelheaded and keeps Julia calm,” another source added.
As for what the two mostly argue about, sources revealed it’s often about where they want to live (the couple share kids Hazel and Phinnaeus, 19, and their 16-year-old son, Henry). “They had differences of opinion over where to live,” a source shared, adding that Moder is “a die-hard SoCal boy” while Roberts prefers Northern California and San Francisco. “They’ve butted heads about that but always found a way to get through the rough times,” a source added.
As a way to compromise on that disagreement, however, it seems like Roberts and Moder are happy to continue “to move around.” “They’re happier enjoying simple pleasures, and Danny’s love of culture and the outdoors has been a big positive influence on their relationship,” the source added, noting that the two of them have much more quality time together now that their kids are older.
And, in addition to working out their problems, it seems like Roberts’ newfound independence has also given her new energy in her career. “She’s always looking for a movie that really breaks through and makes a dent in the culture,” the second source added of the Leave the World Behind star. “The next few years could see her do more acting than ever,” they added. We can’t wait!
