Meghan Markle is proving to be an expert at doing the work behind the scenes and letting the public know about it much later on. She’s getting so good at it that the British tabloids are going to have to find a new narrative for 2024 and steer away from their “press-hungry” Sussex headlines.
It’s been revealed that Meghan moderated a Netflix discussion for her longtime pal Misan Harriman and David Oyelowo to promote Harriman’s short film, The After. The panel took place on Nov. 15, but Harriman just let his Instagram followers in on the secret, almost one month later. He shared a carousel of snapshots with the Duchess of Sussex in a chocolate brown pantsuit and brown turtleneck, looking very professional in her interviewer role. Harriman noted that it was “extra special” to have his close friend hosting the Q&A and it just shows how tight their bond is.
Meghan and Prince Harry have allowed Harriman to photograph some of their most personal moments, including their second pregnancy announcement in 2021, and Princess Lilibet’s first birthday portrait in June 2022. It’s only fitting that Meghan returned the favor for one of his biggest career achievements with The After, which tells that tale of “a London man who witnesses a horrific attack that changes his life and forces him to start a journey of healing and reconnecting,” per Netflix.
The event was held at a private residence in Meghan’s current hometown of Montecito and attended by quite a few famous faces, including Jeff Bridges, John Corbett, Bo Derek, and Christopher Lloyd. This under-the-radar press strategy is working quite well for Meghan — she can be there for her friends in a meaningful way and get the publicity for the project when the time is right.
