If you’re feeling bad about plans coming into play that make you end up missing New Year’s Eve with your partner, don’t worry! You’re not alone because the same thing is happening to beloved A-list lovebirds Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton.
On Dec 18, Stefani dished on why she and Shelton will be spending NYe apart this year, during a backstage interview on the set of The Voice via OK.
Originally, Stefani was going to show her support for Shelton during his performance on New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash, but then an oppurtunity came up for her. “It’s funny because I was going to be at his show and then Vegas called and wanted me to be in Vegas. Last year I did Vegas and I was kind of like, ‘remind me never to do Vegas again,'” she said, adding, “’cause you kind of sometimes just want to have your own… not be the host.”
However, she decided that since Shelton has to work, she might as well too! She said, “And then I was like… I’m going to do it. If you’re going to be working, then I’m going to be working. So, I’m just going to fly in and out. It’s going to be awesome. I’m looking forward to it.”
Now, don’t go thinking this is a sign of a breakup for the two, because they’ve proved time and time again that they’re more in love than ever. (Remember their super-sweet cover of The Judds‘ hit song “Love Is Alive”?!)
For some couples, NYE is huge, and for others, it’s not high on their favorite holiday list. When you’re together a long time, sometimes you miss out on holidays or events, and it’s way more common than you may think. We just hope Stefani and Shelton have a wonderful holiday season!
And for those who don’t know, the two have been dating since 2015 after meeting on The Voice, and nearly five years later, in Oct 2020, they got engaged. They later wed in the summer of 2021, where Shelton officially became stepdad to Stefani’s kids from her marriage to Gavin Rossdale named Kingston, born in May 2006, Zuma, born in Aug 2008, and Apollo, born in Feb 2014.
