In a now-expired Instagram Story (Us Weekly captured it), Scott shared the living room scene with his followers, asking, “What are we doing?” He then pivoted his camera around to the TV with Deschanel’s 2003 movie, Elf, on the screen. She played the less-than-enthusiastic Gimbel’s employee who learns the magic of the holiday season through her pal. Buddy the Elf.

“Zooey and I have talked about the stuff that we want to do,” Scott said on the You Made It Weird With Pete Holmes podcast. “She knows the things that are important to me, the things that have hurt me. I’ve had other relationships where the person ended up doing the same thing that hurt me in a previous relationship. They knew that that was what happened in a previous life, and they still did it.”
Deschanel is also amicably co-parenting her two kids, Elsie, 8, and Charlie, 6, with her ex-husband Jacob Pechenik, so she understands where Scott is coming from.
