Club members and neighbors of Donald Trump‘s Mar-a-Lago estate have what seems to be a Scooby Doo mystery on their hands. They want to know the whereabouts of former first lady Melania Trump because they rarely see her around the grounds of the property and they do not see her out and about in Palm Beach, Florida the way they used to.
Laurence Leamer, author of Mar-a-Lago: Inside the Gates of Power at Donald Trump’s Presidential Palace and a local resident, noted to The Telegraph that “nobody knows where she is.” What concerns him and others is that Melania was often very visible to club members on the grounds and at the Mar-a-Lago salon before her stint in the White House. Now, her sightings are few and far between.
“It’s like a mystery. It’s certainly talked about. She rarely exits Mar-a-Lago. It’s a strange, isolated life they have in that place,” Leamer said. The author isn’t the only one to acknowledge that Melania has taken an unorthodox path as a former first lady. While Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Laura Bush are spotted doing book tours, press interviews, and taking on charity causes, Melania has chosen to retreat from public life — and the press often takes notices.
She’s kept her focus on her son Barron, 17, who will graduate from high school in 2024. Once he’s out of the house, though, Donald Trump insiders have recently signaled that Melania will be out on the campaign trail with her husband. “Trump and his family are so secure that he will become president again that insiders at Mar-a-Lago say he’s reached an agreement with Melania to step up top-tier diplomatic appearances in 2024,” according to a Page Six source. They are saying she wants “to join the ranks of historic first ladies and leave her mark on history.”
Melania has been spotted at two major events in the last month, Rosalynn Carter’s memorial and a citizenship ceremony at the National Archives. It’s a move toward the spotlight again, but 2024 is going to be the true test of how strong her support is of Donald Trump’s third run for president. Her presence will likely be required as the events ramp up to the Republican National Convention and Melania will have to be by his side if she wants the whispers of her whereabouts to stop.
