It’s been a difficult few months for Cher and her family, and the year is ending with yet more shocking news. According to People, Cher has filed for conservatorship of her son Elijah Blue Allman. The reported reason behind the decision sounds even more difficult than we imagined.
Legal documents were filed in Los Angeles Superior Court detailing Cher’s request to become sole conservator of her son’s estate due to his alleged substance abuse struggles, per the outlet. Cher claims her son is “substantially unable to manage his financial resources,” according to court documents obtained by People. The documents further state that a conservator is “urgently needed” as Allman is due to receive certain assets by the end of the year from a trust, per the report.

“Elijah is entitled to regular distributions from the Trust, but given his ongoing mental health and substance abuse issues, [Cher] is concerned that any funds distributed to Elijah will be immediately spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself and putting Elijah’s life at risk,” an excerpt from one of the documents reads.
Many may recall when Britney Spears was placed under a conservatorship by her father Jamie Spears during an incredibly difficult time in her life. In that situation, however, Spears remained under her conservatorship for roughly 13 years, with her father seemingly controlling nearly every aspect of her life. Her conservatorship was terminated following intense and highly publicized legal proceedings in 2021.
Prior to this recent court filing, kidnapping allegations against Cher were made public, claiming the actress and singer hired four men to kidnap Allman in an attempt to get him into rehab. Cher denied the allegations. Per an excerpt from the recent legal documents obtained by People, Cher “loves Elijah immensely and has always acted with his best interests in mind.” A hearing for the temporary order will take place on Jan. 5, 2024, based on the People report.
