The British royal family is well into its new era with King Charles III at the helm and his son Prince William by his side. Though the father-son pair might seem very supportive of one another, appearances aren’t always what they seem. Some sources close to the Prince of Wales believe William is ready to have more of a say when it comes to matters within the House of Windsor and the future of the monarchy, and that might be stirring some tension between the prince and his father.
Prince William “expects to be given more influence and control” within the monarchy as King Charles ages, according to friends close to the Prince of Wales who spoke with The Daily Beast. Other sources, however, believe this might make the father and son’s dynamic a bit more rigid. King Charles is “allergic to anyone telling him what to do, and William is not exactly famed for his subtlety,” sources told the outlet.

Despite William’s reported desire for greater influence, he will always “respect” his father’s “rank” within the family and monarchy. But this isn’t the first time reports of William and King Charles’ tense bond have come to the surface. More recently, one royal insider expressed that William’s wife, Princess Kate, is closer to King Charles than his first-born son.
But after years of drama concerning William’s brother Prince Harry, it seemed Charles and William managed a united front longtime royal fans hadn’t really seen before. In fact, when it comes to matters concerning their family, Charles and William have mostly appeared on the same page. Then again, matters can drastically change when issues of The Firm and the monarchy’s longevity enter the conversation.
When it comes to the future king, William already has quite a few ideas in mind to shape the monarchy. Although his father’s been on the throne for just over one year, it’s clear William’s eyes are set on the future. Who knows how this will ultimately impact the father and son’s bond.
