It’s not a major surprise that the British royal family has rubbed elbows with some of the most famous British and Hollywood celebrities on the planet. Then again, it’s a very different matter when an actress considers herself a “very dear friend” of the monarch. But King Charles III actually has a close bond with one British actress in particular, and the reason why makes a lot of sense.
Sophie Winkleman, known for her work in Two and a Half Men, the adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sanditon, and the recent film Wonka, is quite close with the royal family. Actually, she’s part of the extended House of Windsor! Winkleman’s formal royal title is Lady Frederick Windsor. She’s married to the son of Queen Elizabeth II’s cousin, Prince Michael of Kent. Winkleman recently described members of the royal family as “really fun, clever, kind people,” in her recent profile with Tatler for the outlet’s Feb. 2024 issue.
As for King Charles, Winkleman describes him as “a very dear friend. I spend a bit of time with him.” Recently, the monarch and Winkleman were photographed giggling with one another in the Royal Box during Royal Ascot in June 2023. “You see how he works all day long, has a quick supper and then disappears until about 4am to write letters. He cares about so many things and he comes up with brilliant solutions,” she told the outlet.
Winkleman married Lord Frederick Windsor in Sept. 2009. The couple share two daughters born in 2013 and 2016. Winkleman still uses her own name for professional acting work. We never imagined the British royals had another actress in the family besides Meghan Markle. Then again, this family is always full of surprises.
