Over the past few years, the debate of whether Prince Andrew should still be a part of the British royal family has been at an all-time high. And while King Charles III has reportedly made some controversial strides to ensure his brother’s role in the family, it seems like Andrew himself might not be interested in going back to the royal spotlight anytime soon.
While talking to fans during his family’s annual Christmas Day church, for example, Andrew shared a quite awkward and uncomfortable interaction. “I find this fascinating. Why does everybody have their cameras on?” the Duke of York asked the fans, who were all barricaded behind fences, per People. “Why do that?”
One fan, who was clearly surprised by the question then clarified, “We’re not the press.” In other words, they assured the controversial figure that the footage was meant for nothing more than a personal keepsake.
“It’s not about whether you are the press or not,” Andrew replied, before asking again, “It’s just, why video?”
“Cause it’s just lovely, lovely moments,” another fan then replied.
“You ought to come and stand on this side and see what it’s like,” Andrew then said. “All you have is a lot of cameras facing you, it’s a really bizarre sensation.”
And while we can admit that having so many cameras pointed at you might indeed be daunting, it’s safe to say Andrew has lived with cameras and paparazzi pointing at him since he was born. Why would cameras be bothering him so much now?
As a possible answer to that question, however, is that Andrew’s name was recently included in the documents from Ghislaine Maxwell’s court case.
“It’s not a great look and I do think that you are as strong as your weakest team member and unfortunately he’s their weakest team member,” Royal expert Kinsey Schofield said of the royal family’s strategy on GB News. “But they’re going to stand by him. It’s never complain, never explain. That’s what their strategy is going to be.”
Looks like Andrew, despite all the drama and backlash, might not be done complaining just yet!
