Emma Stone’s Bold Response When Asked About Taylor Swift at the Golden Globes Highlights Their Close Bond

Only a true friend could get away with poking a bit of fun at you and your relationship in a public setting. That’s why we have a feeling Emma Stone and Taylor Swift must be very close. Stone took the opportunity to show just how friendly she is with Swift when asked about the singer’s response to the Poor Things star’s Golden Globe win in the press room of the event, and it was equal measures sarcastic and sweet.

When asked how Stone must feel about Swift giving her a standing ovation and cheering her on from the audience in the room, Stone stepped up to the mic to deliver her response: “What an a–hole, am I right?” Stone said with the most sardonic tone. Then the actress got serious. “I’ve known her for almost 20 years and I was very happy she was there. She was also nominated tonight which was wonderful and, yes, what an a–hole.”

This isn’t the first time Stone’s been asked about her friendship with the “Lavender Haze” singer. During her recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Stone revealed that the two have shared a close bond since Swift was 17 and Stone was 18, basically the start of their careers. “We met at this thing that they had called the Young Hollywood Awards when I was 18 in L.A. We just kept in touch ever since and became great friends.”

Well over a decade later, Swift and Stone’s bond is clearly as close as ever. We loved that Stone felt comfortable being unabashedly herself in the press room. Her answer, though initially very sarcastic, was also quite touching. But we’d expect nothing less.
