Kate Middleton‘s work ethic has been something that has been up for debate by royal critics over the last several years, especially after the end-of-year engagement tally is broadcast to the public. She’s been trying to showcase her early childhood education initiatives, but it’s apparently being overshadowed by complaints that she’s not traveling as much as Princess Anne or Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh.
Her approach to work is being led by Prince William, who has made it very clear that his future reign will be marked by less widespread patronage support and more focused charitable endeavors. He’s calling it “social leadership” to “bring change” in a different way. “You have to remain focused, if you spread yourself too thin you just can’t manage it and you won’t deliver the impact or the change that you really want to happen,” he told the print media, via Roya Nikkhah, Royal Editor of The Sunday Times on X in November. Now, a palace insider is revealing how the criticism is making the Princess of Wales feel.
“What the court circular numbers don’t show is the hours and hours she spends with the team designing the programs you see in public,” they shared with the Daily Mail. “Like her husband, she is deep in the reeds of the planning, something which isn’t reflected in the number of engagements undertaken each year. It’s irritating.”
In addition to her work as the Princess of Wales, Kate has made it very clear that raising her three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, is the most important job she has. She is bringing up a future king and two other children, who will likely remain in their royal roles as they grow up. Being a present parent is important to both Kate and William and their move to Windsor in 2022 enabled them to be more engaged in their schooling and activities.
The source noted that Kate is already looking ahead to what her royal role will look like as her children grow up, describing her train of thought as “long-term change, not short-term gain.” They added, “There’s no rush for an easy win.” That long-term outlook may fuel the criticism a bit longer, but the Princess of Wales is reportedly setting the stage for her queenly reign.
