Ryan Gosling Gave Rare Insight Into His ‘Dream’ Life With Eva Mendes

Ryan Gosling is one of those Hollywood stars who has set up clear boundaries — his career is very public, but his home life is very private. What makes this tricky is that his partner of 13 years, Eva Mendes, also happens to be famous and fans are naturally curious about their relationship. Well, the drought is over for a minute or two because Gosling gave us a morsel about what life is like with the 49-year-old actress.

The Barbie star was honored on Jan. 13 at the Santa Barbara Film Festival with the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film, and he spilled a bit of tea during his acceptance speech. Get ready because Gosling is totally in love with Mendes and his two daughters, Esmeralda, 9, and Amada, 7. “Most importantly, I got to meet the girl of my dreams, Eva Mendes, and have two dream children,” he gushed. “I dreamed of one-day making movies, and now, movies have made my life a dream.”

That might be the most the 43-year-old actor has ever said about Mendes and his kids. The couple first started dating on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines and to this day, the red-carpet premiere in 2012 is the only snapshot fans have ever seen of them in a formal Hollywood setting. They keep such a low profile that there’s still a big mystery as to whether the duo ever married. But Mendes has a tattoo that reads “de Gosling,” meaning “of Gosling” in Spanish and she’s teased that a walk down the aisle might have happened.

In 2022 on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, Mendes hinted about their union when the hosts asked her why she and Gosling weren’t married. “Who says we weren’t already?” she responded. “I like to keep it all mysterious. I’m a very mysterious woman.” And just a week later on Australia’s Today show, she referred to Gosling as the “H” word. “Everyone is so welcoming here, and my husband, Ryan, is here, and we are having the best time,” she said. So maybe they are married?

Whatever their status is, Gosling adores the life that he’s created with Mendes — and it’s so sweet to hear. “After I met Eva, I realized that I just didn’t want to have kids without her,” Gosling told GQ. “And there were moments on The Place Beyond the Pines where we were pretending to be a family, and I didn’t really want it to be pretend anymore. I realized that this would be a life I would be really lucky to have.” Maybe the “I’m Just Ken” singer is all in his feelings after making such a powerful, female-centric film as the dad to two daughters — whatever the reason, keep it coming.
