After nearly 20 years of marriage, there are still certain parts of King Charles III’s life that Queen Camilla understands are very sacred to him. The queen consort has long had a significant relationship with the rest of the royal family. But one royal author recently revealed that there’s on particular boundary the sovereign and queen consort maintain, especially when it comes to this area of King Charles’ life.
According to Robert Hardman, the author of The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy, Queen Camilla maintains her boundaries when it comes to King Charles’ relationship with his grandchildren. The queen consort “knows the sort of boundaries” the monarch prioritizes, Hardman recently told People.

“She wouldn’t want to be getting into the King’s space with his grandchildren. She’s not going to push herself. She’s still very keen to maintain,” Hardman says. “She’s still got her own family. That’s very important to her, and she appreciates how important it is for him.”
For Queen Camilla and King Charles, who married in 2005, maintaining these sorts of boundaries is surely a vital part of their very public relationship. And as Hardman points out, Camilla has her own adult children and young grandchildren to dote upon and cherish. The queen consort shares son Tom and daughter Laura with former husband Andrew Parker Bowles. She has five grandchildren between her two children and their respective spouses.
King Charles and Queen Camilla’s relationship has been scrutinized by the public for decades. But even members of the royal family recognize how important Camilla is to the king and the royal family as a whole. Boundaries are an important part of any relationship, and it seems as though this is one has worked for King Charles and Queen Camilla.
