Sofía Vergara’s New Dating Requirements Subtly Shade Ex Joe Manganiello

If fans were wondering how Sofía Vergara feels about her split from Joe Manganiello… well, they have their answer. The 51-year-old actress has already revealed that New York City men are high on her list because most of them aren’t in the entertainment industry, but there’s also a new dating rule.

She shared her new requirement to Andy Cohen on Wednesday night’s episode of Watch What Happens Live. “To me, they can’t be younger than 50, I’m 51,” she quipped, per E! Online. “OK, 49.” Manganiello was four years younger than her, so at 47, he was definitely knocked out in that round. When Cohen probed for the reason why she won’t go for men who are much younger than her, she added, “I’m intelligent.” Oh, the shade!

Her zing at Manganiello comes just days after she told El País newspaper the truth behind her sudden divorce. “My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom,” she explained. “I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore.” Her feelings are valid, and it’s probably fair to say that Manganiello changed his mind about starting a family at some point in their marriage.

Vergara had her son Manolo, 32, when she was only 19 years old and she’s at a different stage in her life. “I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother,” she noted. “So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children. I’m almost in menopause; it’s the natural way of things.” But don’t interpret Vergara’s intentions in the wrong way — she can’t wait to spoil the next baby who joins her family, but it will be done on her terms. “When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life; that’s what I have to do,” she joked.

The America’s Got Talent judge has been very open about her divorce while promoting her new Netflix series, Griselda. Vergara gave the press the truth and they’ve given her space to process her split from Manganiello. “I have to say the press was very respectful and very nice,” she told CBS Sunday Morning earlier this month. “I thought they were going to invent more things. You know how they usually [do], and I was surprised. They kind of just said what it was, and that was it. I’ve been moving on.”
