As Natalie Portman made the rounds during the early part of awards show season promoting her film, May December, fans were quick to note that estranged husband Benjamin Millepied was notably not by her side. The 42-year-old actress stunningly hit the red carpet, but nothing was said of her 11-year marriage that reportedly was fraught with infidelity in 2023.
Portman may be taking decisive action in 2024 after revealing to The Wall Street Journal that she lives with her children son Aleph, 12, and daughter Amalia, 6, in Paris without nary a mention of Millepied. A Life & Style source seems to have the inside scoop on what is going on. “Natalie is officially pulling the plug on her marriage,” the insider revealed. “She really tried forgiving Benjamin — the last thing she imagined in her life was a divorce — but she could not get past the betrayal.”
The Black Swan star had hoped to save the marriage after the French choreographer allegedly had a fling with 25-year-old climate activist Camille Etienne, but the damage was done. “They went to counseling, and at one point, Natalie thought she could make it work for the children’s sake,” the source added. “She desperately wanted to keep her family together, but at the end of the day, the trust that she and Benjamin had shared was irrevocably broken.”
Millepied apparently was acting a bit shady last year and that’s when Portman’s instincts kicks in. He “would sometimes not return home and was taking work trips that didn’t add up,” which is right about when the Oscar winner “began to suspect infidelity,” per an Us Weekly source. The entire situation left her “humiliated and utterly crushed” and that’s why she deiced to take the “time to focus on herself” after attempting couples counseling.
The former ballet dancer has yet to break his silence and take accountability for the reported breakdown of his marriage, but Portman isn’t waiting around for her husband to change. She now believes he was “cheating on her for many years” and that knowledge might have been just too much to bear. Portman is now only looking ahead to the future.
