King Charles Has a New A-List Family Member & They’re Not Holding Back on Their Thoughts on the British Royal Family

While some royal fans love the British royal family, and can’t stop but marvel at every new outfit Kate Middleton wears in public outings, it’s safe to say the royals aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. After all, one could argue that nothing separates King Charles III from any of his constituents besides the family he was born into.

In a recent episode of Finding Your Roots, hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr., Breaking Badand Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk made his feelings on the monarchy crystal clear, despite a shocking new discovery.

At first, Gates Jr. revealed to the Emmy winner that he was related to a German Duke named Duke of Plön. The Duke, which is Odenkirk’s sixth great-grandfather, meant that Odenkirk was officially a member of European royalty.

“I’m an American. I’m not a monarchist. I don’t believe in, uh, that,” Odenkirk said as he reacted to the news, per Rolling Stone. “You know, I feel like it’s a little twisted.”

“I understand why society builds itself around monarchs and leaders, and they passed them down through generations,” he continued. “I understand that goes through every society, every civilization, but I think that we’ve gotten to a better place with democracy and we should keep going down that road.”

To make the moment even better, Gates Jr. then revealed that Odenkirk, given that all the European families at the time were intermarried, is 11th cousins with none other than the sovereign of the United Kingdom, King Charles III.

“Well, maybe I’ll change my mind on that,” Odenkirk then quipped after laughing. “Oh, that is crazy. I never even thought about that! Of course, that’s true, right? ‘Cause all these families are related.”

And while Odenkirk will most likely not be changing his mind about the monarchy anytime soon, seeing him get the news made for quite an iconic moment. Maybe he’ll connect with them more now?
