Gisele Bündchen Breaks Her Silence About Mom’s Death With a Heartbreaking Tribute

Gisele Bündchen has some heartfelt — and heartbreaking — words to say about her beloved mother, Vânia Nonnenmacher, who died from cancer at the age of 75 on Jan. 28. The 43-year-old supermodel broke her silence on Tuesday to share what Nonnenmacher meant to her. The beautiful Instagram tribute shows how close she was with her mom and how much she’s going to miss her.

The memorial included a carousel of sweet images that began with Bündchen and Nonnenmacher embraced in a loving hug and ended with a moving black-and-white photo of her mom looking up toward the sky. It’s hard not to weep after reading the fashion icon’s words, so grab an extra tissue if you need it.

“Beloved mom, It hurts to know that I won’t be able to hug you anymore, but I know that you will always be watching over us. You were an angel on earth, always helping everyone around you,” Bündchen wrote in both Portuguese and English. “I am so grateful to be your daughter and to have learned from you. Thank you for being the best role model of love, strength, compassion, courage, and grace.”

She continued with her passionate eulogy, “I will forever cherish the beautiful memories we shared and will live by the values you taught me. You will live forever through the many lives that you touched. Thank you for giving me five best friends for life. Your love will always guide us. I will see you in my dreams. Love you.”

Bündchen described her mom as her “hero” going back to 2010 when she first became a mom herself to son, Benjamin, 14, with Tom Brady. “I grew up witnessing my mother always trying her best at doing all she could for the six of us girls. My mom devoted her entire life to her family and did it with such grace,” she wrote on her blog, via People. “She is my hero. She is the reason why I believe a woman is the core of a family … I can only hope to be for my kids what she will and always be for us … Our rock.”

What a legacy, Bündchen’s mother leaves behind.
